The first impression that is
gathered about a person comes from the way a person dresses. This is a fact
that cuts across all barriers, national, cultural and social and the impact of
the attire is indeed attested by the variety of fashions that are emerging
every day from the various fashion houses of the world. Even formal dressing
styles have undergone a sea change with changes in materials chosen as well as
colours over the years. People have started to pay more attention to what they
are wearing and how it will affect their place in society.
The most essential part of a
man’s wardrobe is the business suit and another variant of this is the tuxedo.
Unlike the suit which is usually worn in any formal or semiformal occasion, the
tuxedo is something that is reserved for special occasions like one’s own
wedding or a prom night. It is something that is emotionally more important and
treasured than a suit which is common. There are also a large number of
physical differences between the suit and men’s tuxedo, the greatest one being
the presence of satin especially on the lapels, on the pocket trim, the buttons
as well as a side stripe or elaborate braid down the leg of the trouser. And
although this has been reduced to satin on the lapels and a satin stripe down
the leg of the trouser, the presence of satin sets a tuxedo apart from a suit.
A suit is usually accompanied by a tie whereas a tuxedo is always accompanied
by a bow tie as well as a cummerbund and in some cases even with a low stance
waistcoat. Thus it is an article of clothing that differs from the suit not
just physically but also based on the occasion on which it is worn
Just like the name suggests, a custom
made tuxedo is one that is made to measure, that is it is stitched
according to the measurements of the wearer. This kind of clothing is usually
very expensive and most people opt to rent one out but for people who want that
extra significance, especially to one’s own wedding or that of a loved one,
spending on a custom made tuxedo is seen to be worth it.
The zenith of men’s fashion or rather the haute couture of it
is the suit that has its origins in Saville Row – the bespoke suit. It is an
exclusive garment that is custom made for the wearer. It is stitched according
to the measurements as well as the personal style of the wearer and thus
remains exclusive to one person.
